Why the custom domain is critical
A portal that runs on www.tuotuning.it is worth 10x a portal that runs on tuotuning.providername.com. The reasons:
- Brand: the customer remembers "tuotuning.it", not a shared sub-domain.
- SEO: Google indexes your domain, not the provider.
- Email: info@tuotuning.it is 1000x more professional than yourname@gmail.com.
- Asset: the domain is an asset worth money (resellable, inheritable).
- Trust: corporate customers sign contracts only with their own domains.
Step 1: Choose the domain
Best practices:
- Short: 5-15 characters
- Memorable: no hyphens if possible
- Extension: .it for Italy, .com for abroad, .eu for Europe
- Brand-friendly: yournamechiptuning.it, or yoursurname-tuning.it
- No confusing acronyms: bttuningsrl.it sounds unprofessional
Step 2: Register the domain
Recommended providers for Italy:
- Aruba: €5-€15/year for .it/.com
- OVH: €5-€10/year
- Namecheap: €8-€12/year
Avoid "free" registrations via hosting: you risk losing it if you change provider.
Step 3: Configure DNS towards the portal
On your chiptuning provider (e.g. TuningFile), you will find the exact instructions. Generally needed:
- CNAME record of the www towards `portal.tuningfile.it` (or equivalent)
- A record or ALIAS of the root to a static IP
- Verify TXT to prove ownership
DNS propagation time: 1-24 hours.
Step 4: SSL/HTTPS
Mandatory in 2026. The platform must generate the Let's Encrypt certificate automatically at the first ping of the domain. If they ask you €100/year for SSL, run away: it's free and automatic.
Step 5: Business email
Configure at least 2 emails:
- info@tuotuning.it (public contacts)
- noreply@tuotuning.it (automatic notifications from the portal)
Cheap providers (€2-€5/month):
- Google Workspace
- Microsoft 365 Business
- Aruba PEC + email
Step 6: Branding
Customize the portal:
- Logo (PNG transparent, at least 800px long side)
- Colors (primary, secondary, accents)
- Footer (VAT number, address, contact details)
- Legal pages (Privacy, T&C, Refund)
- Social header (FB/IG/TikTok)
Step 7: Basic SEO
- Title pages optimized with keyword "chiptuning [your city]"
- Meta description for each page
- Sitemap.xml sent to Google Search Console
- Hreflang if multi-language
- Schema.org LocalBusiness if you have a physical workshop
Step 8: Payments
Set up PayPal Business + Stripe + bank transfer. On your domain, payments have a 30-50% higher conversion rate than on shared sub-domains (psychology: the customer trusts).
Step 9: Test before launch
- Create a fake customer (yourself with different email)
- Load a mock ECU file
- Buy credits
- Check invoice
- Check email notifications
- Test on mobile (60% of traffic is mobile)
Step 10: Launch
Once everything is working, communicate:
- Mail blast to existing customers (if you have any)
- Posts on social media
- Update email signature
- Update business card
- Google My Business
