What is an online chiptuning slave
A chiptuning slave is an online service that produces remapped ECU files from the original file you send it. You don't have to be a WinOLS expert or have studied 10 years of mapping: you send the ORI file, indicate the type of tuning (Stage 1, Stage 2, DPF off, EGR off), pay and receive the MOD ready in a few minutes/hours.
How it works
- Extract the customer ECU file with your tool (KESS3, Autotuner, etc.)
- You upload it to the provider's slave portal
- Vehicle selections, tuning options, request level
- The slave (human + automation) processes the file
- Receive notification, download the MOD, flash it on the customer's ECU
Three types of slaves in 2026
Manual slave (human)
An expert tuner modifies the maps by hand. Top quality, times 2-24h, costs €30-€80 per file.
Semi-automatic slave
Software that applies pre-built patches (DPF off, EGR off, Stage 1 standard). Times 5-30 minutes, costs €15-€40 per file. Good for standard cases.
Slave AI / Auto-Tune
Neural systems that generate maps from historical databases. Experimental but growing. Very low cost (€10-€20), variable quality.
Advantages compared to manual remapping
- Speed: file ready in minutes, not hours
- Specialization: specific ecu (Bosch EDC17, Siemens, Continental) have those who know them in depth
- Guarantee: serious providers will redo the file for free if it doesn't work
- Scalability: you can manage 50 files/day without going crazy
- No WinOLS investment: save €5,000+ on licenses
When NOT to use an external slave
- Rare ECUs or race cars: a specialized tuner is better
- Huge volumes (100+ files/day): open your internal slave with WinOLS
- Extreme tuning requiring physical dyno-tune
How to choose the right provider
The criteria:
- Experience: ask for a minimum of 5 years
- Guarantee: free remake if the file has problems
- Average response times: declared and respected
- ECU databases covered: at least 90% of the European car fleet
- Integration with your portal: automatic sending via API
Slave + portal = the winning combo
The optimal setup for a modern chiptuner:
- A chiptuning portal where your customers upload files
- Integration with an external file slave provider
- Markup of 100-200% on the price of the slave
Example: pay the slave €30, sell to the customer €120. €90 margin per file, 50 files/month = €4,500 net profit.
