Stage 1 is the entry level of chiptuning: modification exclusively of the ECU file, no mechanical intervention. It is suitable for all turbo cars (petrol or diesel) and you get on average +20-30% power, +30-40% torque.

Practical example
BMW 320d N47 184hp stock → Stage 1 = 230hp / 480Nm. Audi 2.0 TFSI EA888 220hp → Stage 1 = 290hp / 380Nm.
Reliability
Well made Stage 1 is practically as reliable as stock. Modern cars have oversized hardware (turbo, injectors, clutch) from the factory.

Why it is reliable
Stage 1 takes advantage of the margins that manufacturers leave at the factory for reasons of approval, gradation of range and production tolerances. Since the turbo, injectors and clutch are generally oversized, a well-calibrated intervention maintains reliability close to stock, as long as thermal and mechanical limits are respected and checksums are taken care of.
What to expect
The real gains depend on the engine: Common Rail turbodiesels and petrol turbos respond very well, while the naturally aspirated ones offer modest increases. In addition to peak power, a good Stage 1 especially improves torque at low-medium revs, making the car more ready for daily use. It is always advisable to start from the ORI of the vehicle and verify the result with a road or bench test.
Frequently asked question
"Does Stage 1 invalidate the warranty?": modifying the software can affect the manufacturer's warranty, and in the case of reflashing assistance the ORI returns to the factory status. In terms of reliability, on healthy components and with prudent calibration the risks are limited, but on engines that are already worn or with neglected maintenance it is best to intervene on the mechanics first. Checking the result on the road or on the bench completes a job done to perfection.
